having spent most of 2012 so far further establishing itself as a global bastion of forward thinking electronic dance music, the rwina label is changing things up a little with an ep from young dutch producer jameszoo.
on faaveelaa jameszoo displays the kind of brazen ingenuity that youth affords by drawing inspiration from dancehall before finding its edge to craft an entirely new take on the genre and using that to paint a colourful sonic picture of what he imagines a favela might look like. sounds mad? it is, in a good way. by his own admittance the picture he paints is also a bit messy, yet there is beauty in chaos. as for the inspiration, it can sometimes be hard to hear at first though anyone familiar with jamaicas dancehall tradition will recognise the instantly catchy quality of faaveelaas riddims.

icu boy n dread has been making some serious waves of late and when you hear his music, it doesn’t take long to understand why. his debut here on smokin sessions is soulful and beautifully engineered. clean crisp highend frequencies tickle your ear drums and the low end cuts through with a weighty punch. all 3 tracks have been supported by the deep heads page and had a very positive response.

sex tags mania warehouse find! this might not be one of those popular ware house finds you run into these days, but still, from a storage of a friend of a friend this got dug out. almost brand new but never sold in any amount - a german-french(?) 12 as great as the summer. straight to the b, you know that track you hear, not on any given sunday, but only the exeptionally good ones, the track that sonically floats around, though maybe being to euphoric, still gathers everybody in the area to some sort of silent agreement of peace. usually these musical pieces are found as single items on flee markets if you re a proper digger or have straight out beginners luck. maybe the world has turned up side down, because this beauty has german lyrics (with an instrumental following).

new clone basement series (lucky number 013!) with the long awaited return of a made up sound (aka 2562), following up on his archive ep/cbs02. written as a counterbalance to the more experimental releases on his own amus label series, archive ii finally unleashes whats possibly his most banging, straight-forward club material to date, while retaining the trademark a made up sound funk and swing.hang-up is all about the irresistible herbie-injected groove, cut-up and layered to great effect, whereas things get darker and bass-heavier with technotrack sweetback on the flip. keeping the tension high till a drop towards the end, seven minutes never seemed so short. a great first number 013 release and we cant wait to hear some of our favourite djs play the tracks out loud. another proper banger on the clone basement series!

the dawn ep is the debut release of markey alias sander markey. who recently settled down in berlin, after he was living and working as dj and producer in gent, belgium. now he comes up with four really playful tracks. here he shows his affection for funky grooves and soulful voices. with support from mz. sunday luv, who gave her voice for a freaky intermezzo on dawn, the ep starts offensively. the repetitive groove and the marching 303 bass drum toped with a dark demanding voice have a mystic massage. as contradiction to it you hear a charming dirty string ensemble and an odd delayed snare crushing the monotony. spring break as well as in the shade, the last made in coop with robyns alias yannick robyns, have definitely the warmer funky attitude. playing around with a bobby mcferrin vocal sample and bringing out the soul. facing the clouds is closing the ep as rather melodic and atmospheric track.

bukaddor & fishbeck return with a brand new vinyl 12 inch on mbf. this release manifests again a side of theirs one has not seen before. truthfully speaking this release has more understatement then you would expect from bukaddor & fishbeck. following their pearl >camino< their new a-side >zippy disco< is based on a deep house groove with chords that will never surface and through that work in the best fashion of detroit and chicago techno and house. we have had some deja-vus listening to this track, so see for yourself if you hear some johnny fiasco or daniel bell creating this coolness and sexiness. and let us tell you, this track is a smasher!

kruse & nürnberg feat. karina junker - home by six: the hamburg duo kruse & nürnberg return with another sure-shot in their trademark groovy and reduced house sound. designed for the most discerning dancefloors, the subliminal, sultry vocals of karina junker are twisted around an infectious jam. smooth rhodes flutters indulge the funk within and the result is an unmissable spring-time frolic.
matthias meyer - levant: father of >tout va bien< and >infinity< brings his latest deep-charge to the table with >levant<. playful, filtering drums and percussive fills work a complex groove into the foreground while a gently growing melodic theme builds. its a real summertime beauty that once again firmly plants meyer on the map. ebbing and flowing like the fresh breeze, dont be surprised to hear this one at many an open air this season!

for uzuri 018 we return to one of our home grown artists – jitterbug. time has flown since his last release for us in 2010, but we have been quite eager to get some new material out from him for a while – and, based on feedback we have had, plenty of other people are keen to hear more from him too. both his raw winter and beaten trax eps were pretty popular releases for us and his dj appearances always create a stir, so we are pleased to bring you this, the arcane theory ep. the track sequencing on this record is pretty aggressive – front-loaded with the confrontational rise of the machines. a track that really lives up to its title, sounding like the production line at cyberdyne systems… all stomp and evil synths, like a bad mood e-dancer. fallout couldnt be further from that – relaxed and making no attempt at all to get in your face. itll win you over, though. just a nice, deep groove and a lovely, phased beat. could play it for hours… the whole of the flip is devoted to nomads, a chiming, acidic wander. nearly eleven minutes in length. the kicks never at the fore on this one – most of the action occurs at the mid and high frequencies – a resonant 303, lots of hi hats and, later, synths which expand on the eastern-flavour of the track title

the sccucci manucci label has done a fine job of handpicking artists on the rise for their releases to date, collaring the likes of casino times, francis inferno orchestra and toomydisco as well as the odd established name like jacques renault. the labels fourth release forza quattro is still grounded in the disco/house sensibility that has served them so well, though the presence of waze & oddysey demonstrates the sccucci a & r team are willing to deviate. the elusive us pair are in the midst of a hot patch right now with releases already burning on body work and southern fried and plenty more due over the coming months, so their presence here is a real coup. i cant hear you sounds vaguely like a extra bouncy cover of the classic rip groove and definitely ranks alongside their output to date. alongside this the white vinyl ep has tempo traversing contributions from fil lavin, sellouts and deadly sins, with the latters slow and chuggy -dont you know- a particular highlight

fully koded chicagoians traxx and beau wanzer team up for another mutant beat dance release. together they have produced arguably the best 80s chicago house record not made in the 80s. the mutants call it jakbeat, inspired by the early days of house music. tip!!! let me go is as intense and rhythmically inclined as they come. naughty woods sparse vocals cry desperation, almost nearing insanity, which makes up for a pressure cooker like warehouse anthem. rottonfunk is another intense work out which has a killer groove and makes us wander off to the promised land (wherever that is). its delightful to hear that chicago house music this good still gets made. surely when it was released way back when, it would fetch top dollars on the interweb. authentic stuff!

frisbee is in orbit again. it just landed to bring three individual magic people together. dea with his casual nature and gift to hear out the unique. albion with his intention to find all mindriving sounds in this galaxy and spacelex with the vision of all people dancing together to the sound which is around us. anybody have his own understanding of music but there is one way we ride together. on this way we found out what to do. releasing obscure electronic disco from 1977 to 1980 with the special touch of virginity. the emotion and the power these tracks have, is indescribable. now its time to jump on the frisbee and slide through the universe
